I am listing the top five challenges/ issues in cleaning the river Ganga. These are the major contributor of pollutants to the river. Reducing them can bring back Ganga its glory- 1- Alteration in rivers Hydrology by making various dams as they are reducing the flow of river, 2 - Effluent discharge from industries, urban & rural areas, 3 - High siltation due to unplanned development in hilly states 4 - conversion of various wetlands for other uses 5 - release of dead bodies in the river

First and foremost, remove the source of polution, then cleaning and beautification. Make sanitation available, proper drainage system of human/industrial waste with water desaliation plants. Improve aquatic ecosystem, add freshwater turtles etc.Improve water flow within the river, dredging, deepening? Review historic information and undertake a geomorphological audit of the river, to determine the naturalness and degree of modification of the river at present.

Industries are very dishonest who dump poisonous chemicals to Ganga and other rivers, so create alternate industry that recycles their waste in the factory, otherwise, this problem will never be solved. New factories would be located in all industrial belts that would clean the wastes from any factory research laboratory etc. This will be the biggest contribution of the nation.
