School children are taught good nose blowing, coughing, sneezing methods. This prevents spreading of germs, and infection. The pregnant mothers and school kids in US are taught personal hygiene, clean living conditions which has definitely increased awareness among people. Here we do not know what to expect.

first let us think about personal hygiene that makes a vital difference in the lives of common man.Pregnant women can be our target, and school kids as well.Almost every developed nation has invested much time and energy on this. The US and UK and other European countries lay enormous stress on this point. One of the important issue raised is washing hands. It is said that if citizens wash hands properly we can avoid spreading of very many infectious diseases.

We have a large number of rag-pickers who freelance on the streets all over India and struggle to make a living. What if we organize them, allot them designated areas and turn them into a force? We as residents of different localities can contribute and pay them for cleaning which they already do albeit in an unorganized manner. They will be much more effective when organised. Proper recycling and disposal of our waste will also be taken care of.

Make cycling part of the transportation loop in urban, heavy-traffic sectors. Rent-a-bicycle is common in Holland and Denmark. Use it up to transit points, drop it off, proceed using other public transport from there. See: http://www.holland-cycling.com/tips-and-info/services/bicycle-rental In India, the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has run a successful pilot within the campus and surrounding areas. Although this task is for identifying put practices across the globe. I would to bring to notice one good practice done in our country. In Trivandrum, Kerala, cylindrical bins with closed lids are fixed directly connected to soil. Food and degradable bio waste can be put in them and they will automatically become fodder to soil. Other non degradable waste are put in seperate ordinary dust bins and collected by sewage keepers. Easy and useful practice to keep our streets clean of litters.

Every one who cuts the road for using underground service like water supply or sewage line while constructing a house or shop should immediately fill it back with concrete plenty of which is used/wasted in the construction so that roads are smooth and no stagnation of water in front of their own beautiful premises. Every one should contribute and should feel that street is his own and should not leave it to Govt. Agency. Every one should feel responsible.

Embarrassing but true we in India have almost adopted spitting on roads , walls etc as a part of daily life. Not only it kills Cleanliness , its a terrible unhealthy practice as well. Same things goes with littering as well. I went to Himachal Pradesh few days back and I found people there are performing cleanliness very effectively in shimla wish to see it replicated all over india.
