Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

The biggest issue concerning pollution is the incessant use of plastics. Companies which sell their product in plastic packaging must make an arrangement such that on returning the packaging of product the customer gets some rewards like discount or other offers. This way plastics can be collected, kept away from environment and can be reused or recycled as needed.

Plastic Bag ban is excellent move by gov."Big Thanks to gov".It'll take time to remove completely but its good.As per my experience, everyday whenever i return to home from office if i purchase anything i can get in poly bags easily. But After ban first 3-4 days it annoyed me,but i have managed it to keep cloth bag in my office bag and now it become my habit to carry the bag while leaving home.We can start using jute/cloth bags, which is not harmful also that will help jute. It'd be 100% Ban.

What is needed to be done not only in Chandigarh but nationally is to bring Market Associations on board to convince Vendors in their respective Markets to stop using Plastic Bags/Cups and to keep their vicinity clean. It can be incentivized by extending discounts on production cost of Paper Bags/cups and on Tax to an extent possible.

PM needs to give a clarion call to people to not to use plastic bags wherever possible like, when shopping for Clothes, Vegetables, etc. Exhorting awareness and passion among citizens is the primary thing. And it's a fact when PM Modi talks, we all listen. PM should call on people to participate in this very important endeavor.
