To encourage people to avoid using petrol and diesel is great for the environment and it could be done if our government ... 1. Can implement the idea of weekly Holiday for petrol pumps. 2.CNG shall be promoted. 3. Vehicles running on renewable sources of energy shall be encouraged. 4. Limits could be set for purchase of petrol/diesel for eg. 10 litres a week for a bike or 30 litres a week for car. 5. Discourage low mileage vehicles.

Major pollution contribution is coming from IT professionals. Provide good IT infrastructure so that people can work from home. Once it is done then talk to CEOs of IT organization to encourage their employees to work from home. By Working from home there will many benefits: 1. Less Fuel consumption 2. Less Pollution 3. Less buildings to built means more trees.

Encouraging people to avoid petrol/Diesel is a nice idea. But for the implementation we may need to do lots of preparation: 1. In the public transport, we should have option to carry bicycle with the passenger. 2. All the office should have rewards if employee is using public transport to commute. 3. Reimbursement of public transport tickets in place of Petrol/Transport allowances. 4. Provide rental bicycle at metro stations.

I would like to add one more regulatory approach as an addendum to my earlier 3 posts, that I posted in this hour. Gov has the habit of offering contracts for lower bids. Instead, the gov should offer contracts to only those companies who offer to complete their projects at the fastest pace and not lower cost. Because even when we save money on low cost bids, the slowness of the project will cause more gas and diesel consumption. In road construction, pace is the key.

Local transport to connect people anywhere should be planned and connectivity should be made faster. This also removes the burden of the workers living ans travelling from far off. They stay far becausethey can't afford mnmoney staying close They are saving money and are ok with time lost. If metris were built properky in early stages then people don't mind staying 20 kms way -example hydrabad -the area around airport is not connected well to city with any metros -ideally it should

Gas and Diesel stations should provide customer data to gov, so that the gov would know how the employees are reacting to the new proposals that I outlined in my earlier two posts. This data will be vital not only to monitor gas savings, but also to plan which areas need more help in infrastructure to reduce the gas usage. - R.S.
