During the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Radio programme, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi shared that a large number of people have been talking to him about the increase in usage of drugs. The Prime Minister described this as a very serious issue and assured that he will talk about the menace during the next ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme.

The Open Forums invites you to talk about the menace of drugs. Share how you feel this menace can be mitigated, what steps can be taken to get youngsters out of this. You can share anecdotes – how you saved children from this menace of drugs or if you have had a personal experience. NGOs working in this sphere should contribute. Your contribution would be a major step in freeing India from the menace of drugs.

Every illegal Alcohol and drug shops must be closed, and only authorised shops must be allowed to sell it. Strict punishment (heavy fine) must be there, if any one find taking drugs and roaming in public places. A complaint site should be there so that any one can post pic of peoples misbehaving in public places after taking drugs and separate Police (emergency no ) should be there at least one in every locality.

Respected PM, Drug menace is a dangerous problem and has largely affected Punjab because of large scale smuggling. Education and vigilance are 2 main factors which can help eradicate this drug menace. NGOs should be encouraged to play an effective and meaningful role in such situation. Best regards, venjusa

Next MANN KI BAAT can be on Childhood Obesity. Efforts in USA can be seen http://www.cdc.gov/healthyyouth/obesity/facts.htm. Mrs Obama is herself leading the move-she herself and her daughter have grown slim in the movement. Children in India are obese and a preventative as well as curative action is needed.

Part-3: NDPS-1985 is needed to be reviewed, besides NCB, you may think of having National Drug Prevention Organisation (NDPO) like NIDA in US as a separate body besides Narcotics Control Bureau as Prevention is the key. Whistle Blowers can be rewarded _Customs, Police, public at large, School & college staff can be rewarded for information.

Part-2 Drug addiction is a world wide thing. Children, adolescence, adult students, Military & para military people, those living in live-in-partnership, Hukka bar goers, rave party, etc are into drug addiction, which may even lead to AIDS / HIV. They use injection time & again leading to AIDS. Drugs is an illegal trade and finances terrorism world wide. In India routes through Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and poor African countries besides local produce. Drug Control ineffective.

Part-1: As per old religious belief people & sadhus take Drugs-opium, ganza, baang on various occassions like ShivRatri, Basant Punchami-Saraswati Puja, Holi and other beliefs. Some Sadhus are always under influence of the drugs. Ladies asking for money at all Delhi Crossings have a sleeping child in their lap, who is not sleeping but drugged. The seniors give the drugs to Children, Adolescent and college students(during ragging) and force them into addicts. some examples.

Police force is actively involved in supplying drugs from cross boarder. They also help smugglers in getting criminal cases solved easily pending on them because big politicians are involved in this racket. So there is need to put strictness on police officials and politicians.

youth opt for drugs just for style& they think its heroic kind of thing. Many are influenced by movies.whether film industry people agree or not but youth is that part of population that is maximum affected by it.Instead of giving4-5 lines before starting movies, few interesting movies should me made on that in which the conclusion should be that boycotting drugs and inspiring others too to stop taking drugs is heroic kind of thing. That will definetely work. Also the cost of drugs should be raised
