The country is well endowed with many metallic and non-metallic mineral resources.  India is a leading player in respect of many non fuel minerals including, iron ore, bauxite, dolomite, lime stone and mica.  Mining sector (non-fuel) currently accounts for approx 0.5% of GDP.  For accelerated economic growth on sustainable basis, this sector has to grow at a much faster pace to secure   a higher percentage in the GDP.

Scientific, sustainable and transparent mining practices require well trained manpower.  Skill development not only enhances productivity and safety at work place, but more importantly, it prepares the manpower to adapt to the new state of art technologies. Currently this sector employs around 0.2 Million workforce which is estimated to grow to 0.3 Million in next 10 years.

I've a point about Indian Railways' booking system. Though many things are now automated, there is no facility/option for handicaps for booking online. A change is required, where handicap can book their railway ticket online & he/she should present original certificate in the train along with accompanying person.

1. Sanitation & Sewage Management Considering the growth in Real Estate Industry and increase in large scale housing projects, sewage water treatment and waste management plants should be made mandatory for projects above certain dwelling say a project of more than 50 flats will have to have its own sewage treatment plant and the water processed must be utilized to maintain other facilities such as car wash / gardens etc. Such Projects should also be required to make use of Biogas plants.

Skill development is a going to be a very big challenge in coming years as the required skill is not available. In order to cater to future lateral movement of infrastructure persons should be recognised by DGMS - and new ITI for specifically mining - to be inducted in as statutory persons.
