Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has emerged as a wonderful forum to strengthen the bond between the diaspora and the people of India. It offers unlimited opportunities for India to gain from the skill and insight of the diaspora, who have been the pride of India across the world.

This forum seeks inputs on how to further sharpen the focus of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas for the overall development of India. Share your views on what more can be done to make the interaction between the NRIs and the Government more productive and impactful. How can India receive more investment not only from the diaspora but also from the world at large?

If you find global best practices of how various Governments have been innovatively engaging with their diaspora through such summits, you can share the same here too.

Whether NRI or RI all are here to make reasonable profits and hence just to expect from NRI that they will contribute is not correct. WE need to engage them in small projects which can be funded and managed easily by group of 2-3 NRI with reasonable capital like solar energy to be charged at reasonable price, clean water to be charged, agri commodity storage etc. Essential to focus on small ticket size investment alongwith big investments.

Government should make a list of requirements for the development of India which should be area specific and then put it on the internet for the NRI to decide in which area they want to work. Moreover, work in villages can be made attractive by inviting ideas on "How to make villages appealing to NRIs for investments" and local participation. Give One village to NRI/NRI Group for development as chosen by them in consultation with the local populace.

Has the Govt. decided Venue for the GALA event? I like Govt. to have one at Delhi, 4 others at say, MUMBAI, CHENNAI, KOLKATA and BANGALORE too. Interested entrepreneurs from nearby States can jolly-well join in them. Incidentally, Plans on preparation of possible projects on various subjects must be readied by all State govts too and CMs and top ministers/ officials must be able to offer clarifications/ assistance. Events at above places can incl. entertainments, film-personalities/music etc.

Sir, Good governance has been pinch point of all election campaign. I believe in India fear in deterrence works more than punishment. I suggest we should have a Proactive action ministry. This will have a website and people will be allowed to post proof and information about corruption / crime without giving any information about themselves. This will help govt. to get information which was there but people didn't post as they do not want to expose themselves. Ministry should pick clue to act.

Government should mobilize the NRI's for business investment and govt should make the norms of VISA flexible so that they can be friendly with our country.

NRI's or group of NRI's should be told to adopt a village every 2 years as is proposed in case of MPs and MLAs. This will give the NRI's a feeling of oneness with the villages and development thereof using innovative ideas. Every year 100 Best village competition can be organised based on certain parameters. Even MPs can be given ministries based on the best performing MP/MLA & NRI's can also be encouraged in a similar manner. NRI's can operate directly or through locals of village adopted.

Sir, I wish to suggest that we should identify and make project proposals as per India's needs e.g. Cold storage (Saving Potato crop) or any other and put them on website as option for NRI brother & sisters to adopt it. Let somebody adopt it as promoter may be with very low investment. Shares may be strictly allotted to NRIs. This will help NRIs with readymade projects & even small investors will be able to invest.
