The recommendations focus on enhancing physical, digital, and communication accessibility, ensuring staff are trained in inclusive practices, implementing feedback mechanisms, and promoting regular audits. Here is a detailed overview of the Draft Accessibility Standards / Guidelines (in India) — what they are, why they're being introduced, key features, challenges, and current status. If you want a version in Gujarati, I can prepare that too.
1. Background & Legal Basis
The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 (RPwD Act) mandates that the Indian government should, in consultation with relevant authorities, frame rules prescribing accessibility standards for built environments, transportation, and information & communication technologies (ICT) to enable barrier-free environments.
Under the RPwD Rules, “accessibility standards” are to be formulated for physical infrastructure, ICT, products, and services provided to the public.
The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has taken the lead in preparing draft standards and inviting public feedback.

Ensuring universal accessibility in the service sector is vital for building an inclusive and empowered India. The Draft Accessibility Standards under the Accessible India Campaign are a visionary and commendable initiative.
All government and private service centers, digital platforms, and rural “Village Chain” systems must ensure disability-friendly infrastructure, well-trained and sensitized staff, and continuous public awareness to promote genuine inclusion across the nation.
Accessibility is not charity — it is empowerment and equal opportunity for all.

The suggestion for mandatory integration of AI and Adaptive Technologies is highly innovative and crucial.
It moves accessibility from a static, compliance-based checklist (e.g., fixed ramps) to a dynamic, user-centric experience. This approach will effectively future-proof the standards by enabling personalized adjustments (like instant ISL video interpretation and interface customization) that adapt to a vast spectrum of needs, ensuring true inclusion and service excellence across the entire sector.
