Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

i support plastic-ban. But many times people use plastic bag to prevent spilling of water or other liquid they carry with them in their bag for outdoor visit to save other articles in their bag being spoiled. here other bags made from paper does not help. some alternative should be made available for this problem.

Make a beg compulsory in two wheeler. We use a carry beg due to our inefficiency in carrying a product. If we already have a beg attached in our two wheeler, a huge dependency on carry beg will be shorted out

There should be complete ban on polythene. The alternate eco friendly material should be made available abundantly. School children, children must be taught hazardous effects of polythene. Government should also completely ban any kind of packing material made out of polythene.

A sudden ban may worsen the people of Candigarh. We should aware people to follow the 3R-reduce,reuse & recycle for 2/3 months. This will surely propel them to refuse & reject and finally they would ask Govt to revisit their policy and accept the ban.

what I suggest some NGOs should take initiative to guide to waste picker (Kachrewala) they always burn wast electric wires and product black smoke which is harmful for our environment and living ppl also. Nearest MCD or NGO should take part to literate those people with visualization clips and by mouth words. or start a camping for the same.

my opinion is that plastics can be used in taring roads, where the plastic will be under the road ans it will be there for long.plastics can also be shaped into huge cuboids and can be used to lay railway platform and so on.

Practically ban would HV many issue in india, do instead of banning we should taxed the plastic bags, Example r there around world..There have been taxes on plastic bags since before 2008 in Italy, Belgium, and Ireland, where plastic bag use dropped by 94 percent within weeks of the 2002 ban. In Switzerland, Germany, and Holland, the bags come with a fee.
