Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Our people should be taught about how to segregate the waste at home. Vegetable and fruit waste and their peels should be sold on a daily basis. As we sell our old news paper, we have to sell the green waste, so that people will start segregating the waste.

plastic carry bags were once banned in city like Agra.and even the fine was imposed those who will use the bags..but as it always happens..that did worked for hardly two months or so,people got back to using them, everyone forgot the restriction and its used again. for i think there use should be banned at all places, every city everywhere!! and strict actions and fine to be imposed on the people still using the polybags only then the pollution control could be checked..

Plastic carry bags and packets needs to be stopped all over the country. Now the question is what is its replacement. For that I suggest use of jute bags n cotton bags milk can be served in glass bottles as coke n pepsi does. Cups and plates can be made of paper or clay or leaves or even glass based on situation and need. Now comes the turn of toys those can be made of wood or cotton/cloth or even clay. Next comes electronic items like tv, phone etc it will be company's responsibility to recycl

Citizens needs to be educated...every single citizen should make it a point that they do not ask for any poly bags unless inevitable to shopkeepers/vendors...people should carry their own non-poly bags to avoid use of poly bags...
