With a dramatic growth in elementary education enrolments and improvements in retention and transition rates in recent years, particularly amongst the more disadvantaged groups, there is an increasing pressure on the secondary schools to admit more students. With the enforcement of RTE Act and further improvement in retention and transition rates, demand for secondary schooling will grow rapidly in the coming years. The objective of this discussion group is to assess to what extent we have made quality education available, accessible and affordable to the target population in the age group of 14–18 years. How we can increase access to post elementary education across the country in a manner so as to ensure no child is denied the opportunity of completing his/her school education. In particular, how can we address the geographical and social disparities in secondary education?

Books and other accessories are very expensive at this level. Goverment should stop changing course every year. This help in reducing the cost of education for parents to a great extent. Student borrow old books from senior student. Many student leave school due to week financial condition. So this must be done.

In longer run, we ahve no other option but to create required infrastructure in all the states/districts. In the shorter run, while we bridge the infrastructural gap, we should make use of educational content available online. E.g. I find these two sites very useful: https://www.khanacademy.org/ https://www.coursera.org/ One can substitute their need for physical educational infrastructure to this digital one up to certain extent.

No Exams till 8th standard discourages the incentive to learn and quality teaching and couching by teachers, resulting in retrieval or discontinuation of education in shock by students. need to search for a livelihood is more demanding than good leisure and joyful activity of education at teenage. if pressure on parents is reduced and they been encouraged for helping there ward further education might held the key to extending outreach of secondary and senior secondary education.

In most of the public schools, infrastructure is left underutilized after 1:30PM. If this infrastructure is used for the education of underprivileged children, millions of underprivileged children can get quality education without creating extra infrastructure.

We are aiming at skilled India n make in India in my view the path starts from the secondary n senior secondary schools.Practical knowledge of students at these levels is almost nill. There is need to strengthen conduct of practical at these stages. At 10+1 ,10+2 eqal weightage should be given to practical .Practical exams must be conducted at neutral venue by external in absence of internal teacher.

Students in classes 7th onwards should be able to do short 2 weeks' apprenticeship in offices, post offices, banks, hospitals, publishing houses, factories etc to see what is in store for them if they opt for a certain profession! Often students are not aware of what an aeronautical engineer, draftsman, bank clerk, fire fighter, doctor, accountant, scientist, vet or chef exactly does!
