Manual scavengers are largely illiterate and have no exposure or aptitude for doing business or taking up self employment ventures.  This makes their rehabilitation in alternative occupations very challenging.

\

What are the ways in which the manual scavengers can be gainfully employed in other occupations, so that they do not return to manual scavenging? Participants may share success stories that they may be aware of.

As manual scavengers are very poor first we have to provide them with other income opportunities and there by improving the standards of living. Make sure that their children going to school. Keep them under food security by providing them with ration card. Improving their health conditions. As they have no knowledge to engage in any other employment, first we have to educate them as per the job requirement. By joining the women in the house in dwakra groups etc..

Dear PM, Another child is beginning her life with a memory that she got sexually assaulted at a tender age of 3.Is it a CURSE of the feminine gender that men don't know where to find the button is to push which will change their mindset? When and WHO will break this curse? How many more girls are we willing to sacrifice till definition of RAPIST is changed to "A person who decided to have sex for one last time in their life & also who will not be able to even masturbate for self gratification?"

To end manual scavenging all the houses should be advised to have the bathrooms. no plan should be passed until the house has a toilet. In Canada I see the first thing they do is to lay the sewer system, then the plots then the walkways and then roads.

Manual scavengers were there 50 years back even in Kakinada, East Godavari district head quarters. There are no flush out toilets in 1964 when I stayed in govt hostels. But now govt is very serious and also Supreme Court. Govt enhanced contribution also from Rs 10000/- to Rs 15000/-. While constructing Three Gorges Dam in China, 14 lakhs people were dislocated. But govt constructed multi storied buildings, with schools, roads, hospitals and other amenities.Scavengers can be trained with ITI etc.

We should use sensor technologies and advancement in telecommunications to create a centralized monitoring system in each talukas to check about the drainage system, waterways, pitover flows etc. So that we can clean it properly with modern equipments.
