Section 147 of Railway act prescribes that:-

1. If any person enters upon or into any part of a railway without lawful authority he shall be punishable with imprisonment for a term which may be extended to six months or with a fine which may extend to one thousand rupees or with both.

Provided that in the absence of special and adequate reasons to the contrary to be mentioned in the judgment of the court, such punishment shall not be less than a fine of five hundred rupees.

2. Any person referred to in sub-section(1) may be removed from the railway by any railway servant or by any other person whom such railway servant may call to his aid.

However, over Indian Railways, especially over suburban sections deaths occur due to trespassing.

Respected sir, I also believe that at general places where a small amount of people or animals or other obstacles cross the line, there may be fitted a small sensor, may be infrared based, camera based, laser based or any other. These sensor will serve as eyes that will send a signal to the approaching train & the train driver may be warned before he visualizes & the train horn may be amplified or anything similar may be used so as to warn the people crossing the line from some kilometers before.

Respected Sir, I believe that the places in small villages and towns may be identified where a large amount of people or a mob crosses the railway line or any place where a mob, many people or student crosses the line instead or provided warning and the hooter system that i mentioned earlier consisting of a pair of receiver and transmitter may be installed to warn the people crossing the line of the approaching train.

Pearl city express, a South going train from Chennai to Tuticorin continue to run 12 hrs since many years but buses take just 10 hrs to complete the distance. This due to lack of double line and electrification since many years.
