In India not all houses have open spaces where people can install solar panels.There is a possibility that the panels might get stolen when people go out for work.I am unable to use my solar cooker because of the monkeys which are a threat to such devices.So I think to begin with every colony and street should have one solar power center with security where people can use solar cookers , charge their lamps, dry vegetables and papads safely using solar panels.

In india if you will go to small town or village you can easily find the houses without authentic electricity connection. so the point is the people who are not paying for the commodity.why they will respect it. In fact they take the electricity as granted so My first step would be a proper electricity connection in every house of India and to make sure that every unit of electricity a person is using must be paid by him..

Stand Alone Solar is not so successful due to Battery theft and misuse .. I suggest to go for a power Pack for a village or an area and make the most out of the existing laid wiring and poles by shifting to LED Lights and using the local Power Packs on SOlar Charging with a back up of Local Electricity supply if required
