The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

My idea is to make Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple Mahashivratri a Zero Waste Mahotsav by promoting eco-friendly practices. The temple area should become a Plastic-Free Zone, banning single-use plastics and encouraging reusable items like cloth bags and steel bottles. Separate bins for wet waste, dry waste, and puja materials should be placed around the temple for proper waste segregation. Temple flowers and organic waste can be converted into compost and eco-friendly products. Water refill stations should be installed to reduce plastic bottle use. A Green Volunteer Team of local youth can guide devotees and spread awareness about cleanliness. Digital campaigns through posters and QR codes can educate visitors on zero-waste practices. Expected Impact: This will reduce pollution, keep the temple clean, and make Mahashivratri a model eco-friendly festival. Tagline: “Bhakti bhi, Swachhta bhi – Har Har Mahadev!”

My idea is to transform Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple Mahashivratri into a Zero Waste Mahotsav by adopting eco-friendly and sustainable practices. First, the temple area should become a Plastic-Free Zone, where single-use plastic items are completely banned and replaced with cloth bags, biodegradable plates, and reusable bottles. Separate waste segregation bins for wet waste, dry waste, and puja materials should be installed at multiple points. Temple flowers and organic waste can be converted into compost or eco-friendly products like incense sticks. Free water refill stations should be placed to reduce plastic bottle usage. A Green Volunteer Team consisting of local youth and students can guide devotees and spread awareness about cleanliness and waste management. Digital awareness through QR codes, posters, and social media can educate visitors on the importance of zero waste practices.

To make Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple Mahashivratri a true Zero Waste Mahotsav, we can adopt simple but effective eco-friendly measures: Plastic Free Temple Zone – Ban single-use plastic inside and around the temple premises. Use cloth/jute bags and steel or biodegradable utensils. Waste Segregation Bins – Place separate bins for wet waste, dry waste, and पूजा सामग्री (flowers/leaves) at multiple locations. Composting of Temple Waste – Convert flowers and organic waste into compost or natural incense products. Water Refill Stations – Install free water stations to reduce plastic bottle waste. Encourage devotees to carry reusable bottles. Volunteer Green Team – Create youth volunteer teams to guide visitors and spread awareness about cleanliness. Digital Awareness Campaign – Use QR codes, posters, and social media to educate people on “Clean Temple, Green Temple”. Reward System – Recognize devotees and volunteers who actively support the zero-waste mission.
