The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

Devotion to Shiva, Responsibility to Nature Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple can become a model Zero Waste Mahotsav through a 4-Bin Waste Segregation System: 🟢 Wet Waste, 🔵 Dry Waste, 🔴 Sanitary/Reject Waste, and 🟡 Recyclable Waste. Flowers and organic offerings will be converted into compost, while recyclable materials will be sent to authorized recycling facilities. Green Sevaks will guide devotees on waste segregation and promote reusable bottles, cloth bags, leaf plates, and other eco-friendly alternatives. QR-code awareness boards can spread messages on sustainability and environmental protection. This initiative combines faith, innovation, and community participation to create a clean and green celebration. Celebrate Mahashivratri with devotion without pollution. At Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple, plastic is banned, puja uses reusable vessels, prasad is served in leaf plates, and waste is fully segregated. Flowers become compost and incense, decorations are natural, and youth volunteers guide devotees. This transforms Mahashivratri into a clean, conscious, and scalable model for sustainable religious festivals across India. True Bhakti = Protecting Prakriti. Har Har Mahadev.

अगर आपका लक्ष्य दूसरों से अलग दिखना है, तो ऊपर वाला आइडिया (Har Har Mahadev, Zero Waste Mahashivratri) बेहतर है क्योंकि उसमें सिर्फ नारा नहीं, बल्कि पूरा समाधान दिया गया है। मैं इसे थोड़ा और मजबूत करके देने की सलाह दूँगी: Title: Har Har Mahadev, Zero Waste Mahashivratri Description: "During Mahashivratri, all floral offerings collected from devotees will be recycled into compost and incense sticks instead of being discarded. Three separate bins for wet waste, dry waste, and recyclable waste will be placed throughout the temple premises. Single-use plastic will be restricted, and eco-friendly alternatives will be encouraged. Volunteers and awareness boards will guide devotees about waste segregation and cleanliness. This initiative will help create a clean, green, and sustainable Mahashivratri celebration while protecting the environment and preserving the sanctity of the temple." There is possibility of women empowerment and zero waste management In temples mainly flowers are used and because of not good management it is the cause of urban flooding by being stuck in sewage. For this There is a need to train SHG to make incense sticks from waste flowers.

Namaste everyone, I have shared an idea called “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi” for making the Mahashivratri Mela a truly Zero Waste event. My focus is not only on cleaning waste after it is generated, but also on preventing waste through reusable pooja kits, Punya Return Kendras, flower recycling, water refill stations and community participation. The idea also creates livelihood opportunities for local Self-Help Groups while keeping the temple premises clean and environmentally responsible. I believe faith and environmental conservation can work together. I would be happy to hear suggestions and improvements from fellow participants.

Namaste, Zero Waste Mahotsav ke liye children awareness activities include karna bahut effective ho sakta hai. Bachche jab cleanliness aur waste-free habits ko fun way me seekhte hain, to woh message families tak bhi naturally pahunchta hai. Maine Swachh Bharat aur cleanliness awareness par ek animated kids song/video banaya hai, jisme toddlers aur preschool children ko hygiene, dustbin use, clean surroundings aur waste-free habits simple musical way me samjhaya gaya hai. Mahotsav me kids songs, animated clips, drawing activity, “Use Dustbin” pledge aur family cleanliness challenge include kiya ja sakta hai, taki children aur parents dono Zero Waste message se connect kar saken.
