The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

invite School students from class 8th to 10th standard, Class 11 to 12 and graduate Students NCC NSS National green corps etc to educate villagers coming to Festival and announce in Megaphones about cleanliness Swachhta, No plastic use, Set up steel plates Steel glass Bank for food service Water service camos in festival, NGOs like SriSatyaSai seva organizations, Satya sai Youth organizations etc to assist in volunteers as groups of 15 to 50 from near by states may help, they can also conduct Moral science classes for students, children about Lifeskills soft skills, Balavikas classes Officials can contact Shri Nimish Pandya All India President of the Sri Sathya Sai Seva Organisations for service motivation and induction of local youth in seva and volunteering in various aspects in proper organization of activities related cleanliness service & awareness on swachhta by announcements at spot in public address systems might help

Subject: Suggestions to make Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela a 'Zero Waste Mahotsav'. Suggestions: To fulfill the resolution of "Bhakti bhi, Prakriti bhi" (Devotion with Nature), a comprehensive 'Zero Waste Management System' should be implemented at the Pura Mahadev Mela. The following steps can be taken for this purpose: Three-Bin System and Recycling: Different colored dustbins for wet waste, dry waste, and puja offerings (flowers and leaves) should be placed along the main routes of the fair. The offered flowers and leaves should be collected and processed to make organic compost or organic incense sticks (agarbatti). Ban on Single-Use Plastic: Thermocol and plastic utensils should be completely banned at the fair. Instead, the use of clay cups (kulhads), leaf plates (pattals), and reusable steel utensils should be promoted. Digital and Volunteer Awareness: QR code boards should be installed at multiple spots to encourage devotees not to litter. Local NSS/N

Idea Title: Cycle-of-Faith: On-Site Composting & Green Vendor Ratings for a Zero-Waste Mahotsav Idea Details: Flower-Waste Composting: Setup an on-site composting unit at the temple to process the massive volume of offered flowers and leaves (Belpatra) into high-quality organic fertilizer, keeping local water bodies clean. Green Rating for Vendors: Strictly ban single-use plastics and thermocol in all food stalls and Langars. Mandate leaf plates and clay cups. Reward the most eco-friendly vendors with a "Green Partner" certificate. Trash-to-Treasure Booths: Set up collection centers where visitors and youth volunteers can exchange a specific amount of plastic waste (wrappers/bottles) collected from the mela grounds for a small plant sapling or sustainable souvenir. Digital Scoreboard: Install digital screens displaying real-time statistics like "Total Plastic Recycled Today: XX KG" to boost public pride and participation.

A commendable initiative by the District Administration Baghpat. Transforming Mahashivratri celebrations into a Zero Waste Mahotsav can set an inspiring example for sustainable and eco-friendly religious events across India. Looking forward to innovative waste management, plastic-free arrangements, and active public participation. Faith and sustainability can go hand in hand. By making Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple Mahashivratri a Zero Waste Mahotsav, we can preserve both our spiritual heritage and our environment for future generations “हरित पर्व, स्वच्छ पर्व”. My suggestion is to implement source segregation of waste, reusable steel utensils for prasad distribution, cloth bags instead of plastic, composting of floral offerings, and volunteer-led awareness drives. This can make the event a true model of a Zero Waste Mahotsav. Mahashivratri symbolizes purity and devotion. Let us honor Lord Shiva by ensuring a clean, plastic-free, and sustainable celebration.

Idea: Deposit-Return Eco Kit System Charge ₹20 deposit at entry, give clay cup + leaf plate + cloth bag with QR code. Return items at exit → get ₹20 back via UPI or cash. Youth volunteers manage collection booths across the mela ground. Unreturned item money funds next mela's green setup.
