Respected Modi ji,, I appreciate the government’s initiative to draft accessibility standards for the product sector, ensuring inclusivity for persons with disabilities. I would like to suggest that all commonly used consumer products, especially electronics (like smartphones, ATMs, and household appliances), should have features like tactile buttons, voice assistance, and simple user interfaces that support multiple languages and screen readers. Packaging should also include Braille labels or audio instructions for essential items like medicines, hygiene products, and food items. These steps will ensure that persons with visual, hearing, or cognitive impairments can live more independently and with dignity. Thank you..

SUGGESTIONS Focus Areas Give priority to ICT products and packaging, ensuring that technology and information are accessible. Mandate Braille and tactile labels on consumer products to empower visually impaired users. Implementation Develop a phased roadmap for compliance, particularly for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), with incentives to encourage adoption. Provide simple, self-certification/audit mechanisms rather than complex procedures to support easier compliance. Training and Awareness Organize workshops and awareness programs for manufacturers, designers, and consumers to promote knowledge about accessibility requirements. Actively involve persons with disabilities and their representative organizations in forming, monitoring, and reviewing the standards for genuine inclusivity COMMENT Universal Design Principles: Products must be usable, inclusive, and flexible. Emphasis is on simplicity, minimizing physical effort, ergonomic design, and tolerance for error

Awareness: Many manufacturers may not be aware of the importance of designing for accessibility, so public education and training will be key. Cost: There might be concerns about the cost of designing and manufacturing accessible products, but the long-term benefits of inclusivity and expanding markets may outweigh these initial costs. Innovation: The standards present an opportunity for manufacturers to innovate and offer products that set them apart in the marketplace, positioning India as a leader in accessible products in the global market.
