University will develop and propagate higher education (PhD, M Phil, M Tech and M Sc) in National Security Studies, Defence Management and Defence Technology and promote policy oriented research on all aspects relating to national security, both internal and external. It would also encourage awareness of national security issues by reaching out to scholars and an audience beyond the official machinery. It will also serve as a think tank contributing to policy formulation and debates on security and strategy. INDU will inculcate and promote coordination and interaction not just between the three Armed Services but also between other agencies of the Government, the Civil Bureaucracy, Para Military Forces, Central Armed Police Forces, Intelligence Services, Diplomats, Academicians, Strategic Planners, University Students and officers from Friendly Foreign Countries. It would create synergy between the academic community and Govt functionaries. It would make available opportunities for higher studies through distance learning to interested military personnel.

Initially, four new colleges / institutions, namely School of National Security Studies, School of Defence Technology, School of Defence Management and Centre for Distance and Open Learning are proposed to be set up at main campus at Binola, Gurgaon. The four existing Defence Institutions namely National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi, College of Defence Management (CDM), Secunderabad, Defence Services Staff College (DSSC), Wellington and National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla, Pune are proposed to be brought under the ambit of INDU without diluting their powers or autonomy for award of degrees and diplomas.

As we see, civil defense personnels, NDRF bring huge contributions during event of natural disaster and sometimes it is limited up to mock drill events to overcome emergency. So, if we see, the initiative remains as reactive. To engage in a community directed active approach also stands vital as this can create more jobs. Strategy driven courses can also be introduced at higher post graduate level.

It is a very good initiative and unique for the country since there was no such initiatives before. One important thing I would like to share that Country's defense need to be a coordinated approach where country men equally becomes an important stake holder. Currently differences are visible because the matter is left entirely on the hand of our army people but for a better home land security, a lot of awareness need to be created and a course related to community involvement is welcoming.

It appears that the courses are designed at PG level and most suitable for Defence personnel with Graduation degree.Request that UG level courses namely Courses in Economics,Statistics,Accountancy,Geography will help to make workforce to be informed workforce since these subjects have direct impact of improvements on their work.It is indeed a very good initiative. Will this university be under HRD or Defence or Education Ministry? Will Army Education Corp be part of this University?Thank you

Dear Sir, Pls make 3 or 6 months of Miletry training compulsory for each student of India so that our future generation can be made disciplined. we can include this course in either 6th or 7th standard where the kids don't have so much of study loads. In this course we can educate them in self-defense, disaster management, meditation, national integrity, patriotism etc. In this task we can take help of our retired army officers.

every one of us should be given chance to work with our defense forces for 15/30 days in every alternate year in order to develop skills on yoga, meditation, health and wellness n so on. we know so many things but not able to do regularly due to lack of skills we should start with teachers community followed by doctors and in turn they should be able to propagate the same in rest of the society promotion n incentives etc should be linked with the grade/s they get. self grading to be promoted

Dear sir,it's a very nice initiative.I would like to add few points: 1. Not only institutes like DSSC n NDA but all the technical training institutes under armed forces should be brought under INDU. 2.ORs who want to pursue diploma/ degree in Engg should be provided a platform for the career enhancement.it will be beneficial for both sevices n individual. 3. ORs who want to pursue further studies other than in tech field should be provided a platform to continue their service n study together

Dear Sir, NCC: I don't see NCC getting recognition. NCC must be considered base & primary condition to get in this university. NCC must be compulsory for all. This is a wing which can induce morality & values in a person at young age. This is a wing which can give more people Like Capt.Batra. Any person going this university must have minimum short commission officer job binding in forces or defense services. This should be foundation for HAL,DRDO & like wings to select intelligent brain.

Dear Sir,it very nice step of your govt that you are going to establish Defence University, i would like suggest you that it should be compulsory for all the Indian nationals to undergo one year army training. the govt may give directions to universities and other academic institutions to introduce such courses in their curriculum as a compulsory subject. these courses should be introduced at6th standards and must be delivered upto PG level irrespective of course/specialization/branch
