Oil & Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF) is a significant annual event of the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, which is organized jointly by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and Public Sector Oil & Gas Companies every year from 16th to 31st January. Various people centric activities are conducted during this fortnight with a focused attention on conservation of petroleum resources and environment substances. PCRA’s mission is efficient energy utilization and environment protection leading to improvement in quality of life.

Since its formation in 1978, PCRA has remained engaged to create awareness amongst masses on importance, benefits and methods of conserving precious petroleum products leading to environment protection, energy security and sustainable development. During FY 2015-16, India spent Rs. 4.82 lakh crores on imports to fulfill domestic demand. Fuel can be saved by employing energy efficient equipments and techniques, better driving and cooking habits, reducing wastage and switching to alternate fuels besides others. Reduced consumption of petroleum products leads to minimal environment GHG emissions. Petroleum fuel is made of hydrocarbons which also emits harmful gases on combustion. These emissions have an adverse impact on human life and environment contributing to climate change.

In the previous years, PCRA’s theme for OGCF 2015 was “Save Money” with a tagline “Indhan Bachao, Jan Dhan Badhao” and for OGCF 2016, the theme was “Clean Fuel” with the tagline “Indhan Ho Swachh, Jan Gan Rahein Swasth”, based on the health issues prevailing at that point of time. PCRA will now be organizing OGCF 2017 during the period from 16th Jan.’2017 to 31st Jan.’2017. Suggestions are invited for “Theme” from the public at large, taking into Domestic critical issues, pertaining to fuel & energy conservation, on which PCRA should bring awareness among masses.

Last date of submission is 10th November 2016

We are producing roughly 50 bikes, 5 cars per minute now our petroleum bill is 4.82 lakhs. At this rate apart from industrial consumption, coal for power generation what would be our co2 generation ? Is there a control in place ? Do we have sufficient forests to take care of co2 ? Are our commercial vehicles energy efficient ? There are a few questions in my mind. Can PCRA address these issues. Common man cannot understand all these facts. Do we have competent people who will control such issues

Use latest technology - IoT to get data for analysis and take informed decisions for energy conservation. 1. Most effective for Farmers - bore/wells: Check motor usage duration and the quantity of water that it pumped and energy consumption for that duration (be it Electricity or Gas). Get all most feasible trials run for analytics data. Run the most economical solution as informed decision. 2. Implement the same for all domestic consumers who run motor pumps to draw water from bore/well.
