However, not many cases have reached the trial stage. The success of ED is linked to how the higher courts are functioning. The cases of many politicians are dragged in courts in one pretext or another by influential lawyers. There are relentless efforts to put hurdles in investigation, prosecution and trial. We have seen how the SC is giving bails to the corrupt, criminals and anti national elements and questioning the ED and CBI. So I feel, without a comprehensive reform of the higher judiciary the functioning of ED will not be very effective.
