In the recently concluded Rio Olympics 2016, India sent its largest ever Olympic contingent comprising of 118 athletes. Despite the large number of athletes, the Indian contingent managed to bag only 2 medals in the Games viz., one Silver medal in Badminton and one Bronze medal in Wrestling. Considering the size of our country it can be said that the present performance was not up to the country’s potential. Views/suggestions are invited on what specific steps need to be taken to realise full sporting potential of India in forthcoming Olympics in 2020, 2024 and 2028.

1. Have INDIAN OLYMPICS biannually. This should be on the lines of World Olympics AND 2. Unlike countries which participate in the World Olympics, in the case of the INDIAN OLYMPICS the participants should be the Indian states such as Maharashtra, Orissa, Kerala, etc. This will increase the competitive spirit and bring out the best performance from the participants

#MoYAS Need to highlight the achievement by our Indian Women at RIO OLYMPICS to the maximum extent possible. This can include: 1. Putting up their achievement and the messages thereof for encouraging children for sports at prominent public places like Airports, Railway Stations,on railway tickets backside, special stamp etc. 2. A special train on the lines of science express which will include information on sports and achievements of India in sports. Special Camps for sports at all levels.

Suggestions: (1) Involve Gram Panchayats, let them bring out potential sportspersons to Inter-Gram Panchayts Sports Meets. (2) Those who performed up-to the mark may be selected for District Teams. (3) These boys/girls be given concession in exams or rather a special exam may be introduced in all District for that matter. (4) Stipend to all from this stage itself so that they can nourish themselves properly. (5) State level players afte retirement must have assured jobs..
