Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Our country is becoming habitual of plastics n packages but there is a need to remove this vicious trap through ban on these plastic making industries, if not fully but to a limit we can just reduce its use, its really not possible to do this in one day, we know Rome was not built in a day but govt can start campaigns like use of cloth bags..... The burning of plastics produces so harmful gases for the depletion of ozone layer so we must rarely use poly bags if not possible to just eradicate it.

Our country is one of the leading producer of jute. But the health of the jute industry is a cause of concern as it provide employment to large number of persons also. So instead of using plastic bags we can promote the use of jute bags as they are durable also and can be used multiple times. We can involve self help groups also in manufacturing jute bags.

Instead of banning usage, why not ban the production itself. This will be in the best interest of environment. Stop the production of plastic bags, plastic cups, plastic plates. Even though it affects the tax collection, govt should take this step on stopping production only. This will only end the unlimited usage

Thanks to Rag pickers most of the plastic gets recycled. But small sachet made by FMCG companies cannot be sorted and recycled. Either ban them or move them to plastic containers. These sachet end up in land fills or sewage lines clogging. Most of the blockage in sewage line is caused by these plastic shampoo packets used in bathrooms
