Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Ban on plastic material will be injustice to those who are involved in this business instead its end users can be made more aware special campaigns in educational institutes can prove benificial in cheking plastic related menace.simuntaniously biodegradable substitutes of plastic can be brought up .pilot projects in couple of sectors can be initiated to study its pros and cons.marriage palace owners can be educated to keep crockery material instead of use of plastic.

Just increase tax on poly bags which are under 40 microns just like cigarettes no body will bother and make no tax on cotton or hand made bags this will boost up poor and poly will reduce and India will be clean and green Then India banega swatch Bharath and Shrestha Bharath Make people to motivate like toilet advertisements which were showing in theatres before starting of film Like plastic ban and it is harm to us

Sir chandigarh city should follow up the himacha l pradesh model for implementing strict rules. The persons using plastic bags should be fined. Also general awareness among people about the harms caused by the plastic waste must be spread.Instead of plastic cups and plates paper or leaf cup plates should be used. Also paper bags or biodegradable polythene bags use should be encouraged. This will encourage entrepreneurship among the youths and provide employment to the population.

Companies, offices, schools and all other places of work should have availability of alternative bio-degradable material carry bags. These bags will be given on nominal charge of Rs 1 for 5 kg bag. Otherwise there is nothing which can stop this menace even by banning plastic bags completely.

banning plastic bags,though unpopular,is inevitable.to popularise the move it is important to make students and youth part of the movement by running sustained campaigns in schools and colleges and using electronic and print media to decrease the pull for plastic bags as banning them only addresses supply side.to address the demand side pressure alternatives should be made cheaper as carrying bags from home while shopping is not a habit we are used to as of now.
