Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Sir, there should be penetration of plastic recycle to all towns and villages. Banning products may not necessarily help though reducing use provides long term sustainability. This achieves 1. Job creation 2. Recycle of harmful non-degradable products from polluting the environment. There are various governmental organizations, e.g.: DRDO, that has done abundant research on waste management. Under the aegis of these organizations, we can start pilot plants and test their viability first.
