Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Non Woven bags which have color are being used as a substitue for "polythene" by all shops. This is more harmful to the environment. Instead degredable, biodegredable manufactures who have certificates and Lab reports are not being allowed. This is the Irony, please take action and recrify.

Why is it that When a manufacturer has been mentioned as "biodegredable" by a cpcpb report publicly available on website, then inspite of that Administration wants certificates like ISO which are extremely expensive and take time to procure.? This is like a license Raj, and against Modiji's #easeofdoingbusiness. Please make your procedures simpler and accept reports of the CPCB as proof and stop harassing small businesses.

the plastic ban is necessary be it chandigarh or be it any place in india. The best possibility is to stop or remove all industry which actually produces the plastic bags or cups or allied items. Those factories should be given 2-3 years time frame to phase out and start other bio degradable bags or cups or alternate material like gunny or jute bags, tea cups of clay /kulhadd......its not only increase craftsman employment but also save ecology...

Plastic become a part of daily life, but instead of to get rid of them, use biodegradable plastic. In abroad now a days they are putting biodegradable bin bags to each house monthly at 30 pieces, and charging along with electricity bill compulsory. In supermarkets all covers are biodegradable covers & their price added to consumables.Setup separate bin for metals, plastic, organic waste, glass, wood in each streets.Based on the fill up continually replace the bins.student can work as part time in it.

Well, what I do is I carry my own jute or cloth bag. This is a great way to go green. Most of the people I have encountered are either uneducated or lack quality education, or If I may say alternatively some are ignorant. My advise is that govt. should invest heavily in quality advertisements to make people aware and adopt the alternative of #carryyourownbag for groceries. To avoid plastic plates we can adopt organic plates made up of leaves. in north you call it 'Pattal'.

We all know its harmful but on other hand small vendors cant afford paper bags, even paper bags leads to tree cutting. Stoping usage of plastic bags is not the solution, We should stop trowing it. Every city town village should have recycle point for plastic where we can dispose it properly. In town n village people throw garbage in plastic bag, i have seen cows buffaloes & dogs eating those bags which is dangerous as that might affect quality of milk. Even affect their life.

I suggest that plastic packing should be banned in mnc companies because they are capable to do this. Now days we can see plastic garbage all the spots.and recycling innovation should improved. Eco friendly bags should be prompted and at the last awareness is very very important.jai hind.jai Bharat.
