हमारा देश विभिन्न धात्विक और गैर धात्विक खनिज संसाधनों से परिपूर्ण है। भारत में लौह अयस्क, बॉक्साइट, डोलोमाइट, चूना पत्थर और अभ्रक सहित कई गैर ईंधन खनिज पाए जाते हैं। खनन क्षेत्र (गैर-ईंधन) वर्तमान में सकल घरेलू उत्पाद में लगभग 0.5% का योगदान प्रदान करता है। स्थायी तौर पर त्वरित आर्थिक विकास के लिए, इस क्षेत्र को तेज़ी से विकास करना होगा जिससे सकल घरेलू उत्पाद में इसके योगदान के प्रतिशत को बढाया जा सके।

वैज्ञानिक, सतत और पारदर्शी खनन कार्यों के लिए प्रशिक्षित लोगों की आवश्यकता है। कौशल विकास न केवल उत्पादकता और कार्यस्थल पर सुरक्षा को बढ़ावा देगा अपितु यह लोगों को नई प्रौद्योगिकियों को अपनाने और उसका प्रयोग करने के लिए भी प्रशिक्षित करेगा। वर्तमान में इस क्षेत्र ने 0.2 लाख कर्मचारियों को रोजगार प्रदान किया है जिसका अगले 10 साल में 0.3 मिलियन होने का अनुमान है।

The mentality of not doing physical work by educated needs to change drastically and also the impact of earlier caste system needs to be minimised. Kids need to be told what work involves what eg what does a fireman do (should visit fireman), what a businessman does (visit local businessmen) etc etc to make up their minds as to what they want to do. Only when people actually do what informed decision they have made on the work they want to do, will the quality of work improve.

Government should buy some of the content of education from good indian content companies, which are currently using cable and dvds to distribute content and sit with real experts to improve it. A sesame street type of program should also be started to teach morals to kids who are the future

I think skill development should be a private sector enterprise but regulated by the govt.and more than just drafting guidelines , the govt should ensure strict implementation of these guidelines....if we have to improve the quality of manpower in our country then following guidelines at the organisational level and rules& regulations at an individual level is essential. As far as mining sector is concerned, Govt subsidised private institutes are the most appropriate bcoz these institutes would
