It typically reaches 67–94 cm (26–37 in) at the shoulder, and the head-and-body length is between 1.1 and 1.5 m (3 ft 7 in and 4 ft 11 in). Adults weigh between 21 and 72 kg (46 and 159 lb). Its head is small and rounded, with a short snout and black tear-like facial streaks. The coat is typically tawny to creamy white or pale buff and is mostly covered with evenly spaced, solid black spots. Four subspecies are recognised.[3]

According to me we should never treat anyone badly.As far as animals are concerned they do have equal rights to live in this world freely and without any fear,as we have.It's we who should take care of each and every living creature present around us it's our duty as other living creature specially as human beings who are considered to be driven by sentiments,emotions as we have features like empathy, sympathy so why not take care of animals who cannot speak,cannot express their feelings cannot shout in frustration,cannot smile and laugh out loud in happiness,cannot cry in anguish or when melancholy.They do feel as we feel .Do they not eat food just as we do,to survive,are they not hurt with same weapons with which we are hurt,don't they feel the heat of summer and cold of winter,if you prick them will they not bleed,then why humans what is the reason for not treating them well.if we treat them good they will feel good,safe and be loved and will respond in the same way back.

The Planet Earth is a home to not only humans but to flora as well as fauna. By respecting animals and treating them in a well mannered way we can safeguard the quality of life on Earth as these animals are an integral part of the ecosystem and help in maintaining ecological balance. Therefore culturally and ethically we should treat animals in a gentle and humble way. We should take such steps in safeguarding, conserving and protecting them and their habitats as well.

Among animals dogs are known to be most loyal. Stray dogs of India have co-existed with the humans from the Vedic ages. The localities in which we live, belong to them, as much as to us. One needs to look at stray dogs with empathy. The poor creatures are born and die on the roads, pups get crushed under moving vehicles, and many are run over by reckless drivers leaving them paralyzed and maimed for life. They eat whatever they find. One thing that I have observed and have faced myself on feeding rounds; some residents come and confront the feeders/volunteers for feeding the stray dogs and talk illogically like “Take these dogs to your home” etc. What they don’t understand is that by feeding the stray dogs, the feeders/volunteers are able to win their trust and it’s easier for them to get the dogs vaccinated/ sterilized. Getting the dogs sterilized will ensure that they can’t mate and getting them vaccinated will ensure that they don’t get rabies and their bite won’t be harmful.
