During the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Radio programme, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi shared that a large number of people have been talking to him about the increase in usage of drugs. The Prime Minister described this as a very serious issue and assured that he will talk about the menace during the next ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme.

The Open Forums invites you to talk about the menace of drugs. Share how you feel this menace can be mitigated, what steps can be taken to get youngsters out of this. You can share anecdotes – how you saved children from this menace of drugs or if you have had a personal experience. NGOs working in this sphere should contribute. Your contribution would be a major step in freeing India from the menace of drugs.

Creating strict policies is one thing and enforcing them effectively is another. Besides, people will always find loop holes. This is a GLOBAL problem and there is no quick fix solution other than a gradual cleanup of the society by instilling good values in our kids right from HOME to SCHOOL and SOCIETY.

Prevention is better than cure, curing drug problems is like trying to stop a wildfire (thank you Samarth Mohan). There should be detailed, credible and realistic drug awareness campaigns in every school. Children should get knowledge on this subject at early ages. And when it is to late: Drug addiction should not be treated as a crime, but as a disease. Stricter drug laws and policies will put more people into jails and ruin more lives, but will not solve any problems.

Further to my last post... Not being cynical here, but stricter punishment or laws will not and cannot stop this menace. In India it is illegal to sell, consume or possess Marijuana, but that is not stopping the youth from using them. What is needed is awareness on how Marijuana although gives a certain high initially and even as some say temporarily 'increases creativity and concentration', but in the long run it harms the brain. This needs to be imprinted into the mindset of the youth.

Modiji, Most of the drug peddlers from whom our youth buy are small and chances are that even Police may not be aware of them. The places they sell are located deep inside a locality and only regulars buy from them. If one is new, he may either has take the reference or use certain 'known' language for these sellers to trust and sell drugs... Form a youth brigade who can report these places to police. I would love to volunteer as I know a few of my friends who buy drugs from such places.

सभी नशीले पदार्थो का उत्पादन तथा उपयोग किसी भी स्तर पर प्रतिबंधित करना आवश्यक है और इनका मूल्य धीरे-धीरे बढाकर बहुत अधिक करना भी सफल हो सकता है । नशीले पदार्थो के दुश्प्रभाओं के बारे में विद्यालय तथा महाविद्यालय स्टार पर एक विषय का विस्तृत अध्ययन भी कराया जा सकता है।

Drug issues have slowing turning into problem among youth in India. Most of these young drug users no longer use conventional psychtropic drugs an have started using new generation drugs like Meth and Ecstasy tablets which are easy to hide and take without anyone noticing. These dangerous substances are not imported and some unscrupulous pharmaceutical manufacturers provide these to the drug market. Unfortunately, drug manufacturers in small scale sector are found to be main culprits.

my father taught me that values are like a vaccination. Handling Drug problems later in life is like trying to stop a wild fire. We need to educate and instill values in our children so that they can make better informed decisions and can escape the diseases prevalent in society. External influences, bad habits and pressures of society can be very well destroyed by these vaccinations called "values" or "sanskaar" Regards, Samarth Mohan Pathak

जो व्यक्ति नशापान छोड़ते हैं उन्हें प्रधानमंत्री के स्तर से प्रमाण पत्र दिया जाए। साथ ही हर जिले में ऐसे लोगों के सम्मान में कोई आयोजन किया जाए। ऐसे लोग यदि बेरोजगार हों, तो उन्हें किसी एनजीओ वगैरह के साथ जोड़कर लोगों को नशा छोड़ने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करने के काम पर लगाया जाए। - रवींद्र पांडेय, रांची
