During the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Radio programme, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi shared that a large number of people have been talking to him about the increase in usage of drugs. The Prime Minister described this as a very serious issue and assured that he will talk about the menace during the next ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme.

The Open Forums invites you to talk about the menace of drugs. Share how you feel this menace can be mitigated, what steps can be taken to get youngsters out of this. You can share anecdotes – how you saved children from this menace of drugs or if you have had a personal experience. NGOs working in this sphere should contribute. Your contribution would be a major step in freeing India from the menace of drugs.

Adarsh Gram Sudhar yojana should also include eradication of drug menace thru massive and effective advertising campaigns. The saansad, parshad, MLAs adopting the villages should also be entrusted with this responsibility. NGOs actively working in the area should be given more powers and incentives for the promotion of 'Say No to Drugs'. All international forums must address the serious issue apart from political and commerce matters. The drug traffickers must have capital punishments .

Local groups can be formed in areas with easy accessibility and they can be entrusted with target based work. for any drug user to continue the habit, he needs supply of drug as well as time. We need to cut both the needs. Drug abusers can be deployed in hospitals as social workers. When they will see the fate of long term drug abusers, they will tend to abstain from the habit and at the same time, they will help in providing the moral support to the patients which is much needed.

Sir Vande Matram, We can mitigate the evil drug by following some steps like 1. School education 2. Showing kids the pictures of patients and ill effects 3. Parents needs to be educated about the evil 4. Legal punishment should be like 50 years jail and 10 Lacs fine since the peddler is exploiting not kids or a person but thousand of families. 5. Fast track courts for the same 6. Fear of law to a peddler and buyer Regards Rahul V C

The only way to handle the menace is to come down heavily on drug sellers while at the same time making sure that proper cheap rehab is available for addicts.Some prominent celebrities should be used to create awareness about the problem and efforts should be taken to increase the social stigma attached to it. The police should be better trained in detecting and catching drug smugglers.It should be ensured that drugs are very difficult to obtain for a person.

We must first acknowledge that alcohol is a drug. A drug that is taxed for the government coffers(and mainly introduced by the the British raj as whisky and beer). But it is socially acceptable. Bhang(cannabis) is part of India's ancient heritage and should be controlled and taxed like alcohol(the British banned it). Other drugs - all mainly synthetic should be strictly banned. Poppy derived opium must be freely available for cancer pain patients whilst its recreational use strictly banned.

Being in medical field as a maxillofacial surgeon, i have come across lot of trauma patients who have been in accident due to drugs and the percentage of drug abusers put up officially is far less than actual abusers. Most of the Drug abusers are young persons who don't find a way to channelize their energy. Their energy, if channelized in social work, will help them to abstain from the habit.

Education system re vamp is the single most way to tackle the drug menance. In school curriculum, every child should be able to unleash his/her creativity. The rigid syllabi and forced competition kills the creativity of children, and unable to decide, this void they try to fill with drug induced "high"

Sir , My suggesstion is to introduce this as a compulsory subject in Schools from Class 1 level . It's best to teach the ill effects of Drugs . At impressionable age most children will imbibe what they are made to understand Anything forced human nature purposely does Regards Anil Khaitan

best and only solution i see today is complete ban on all tobaco ,supari ,alcohol,other all types of drugs and this has to be done on very mass and root level by govt officials and public. To overcome govt loss in revenue arising due to it, 1 percent extra surcharge on our existing TAX structure will be more than enough.Also those who found red handed should be sent to one week jail that too without any court process.in jail also they would not be feeded on govt money they would have to use their own money to eat food.all religious practises of consuming any of these product should be strictly banned. some hard core action is needed to remove this eveil from our country and iam ready for it. jai hind
