During the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ Radio programme, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi shared that a large number of people have been talking to him about the increase in usage of drugs. The Prime Minister described this as a very serious issue and assured that he will talk about the menace during the next ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio programme.

The Open Forums invites you to talk about the menace of drugs. Share how you feel this menace can be mitigated, what steps can be taken to get youngsters out of this. You can share anecdotes – how you saved children from this menace of drugs or if you have had a personal experience. NGOs working in this sphere should contribute. Your contribution would be a major step in freeing India from the menace of drugs.

Yes I Agree, concur and accept this approach. Direct communication more than opinions on Public post. I can imagine the end result if ideas were to be invited from public on "Swatch Bharat Abhiyan " The drug menace is akin to Swachata & Shudhata in society! In this direction please see my post today on this issue

The root cause of all problems is quality education. In Swami Vivekanand' words, "We need a education which will build the intellect and build the character of person." We need to revamp the education system; inculcate the values in each persons mind. This is the only way to build the person and nation. We should invest heavily in the quality education to all...if possible free. I think for this we need to focus on methods to achieve this. All problems such as drug, abuse, rape will get resolved

i believe that youngsters are addicted to drugs because they are not addicted to the beautiful things around them, for eg: nature, plants ,birds, flowers.yoga and meditation should be made as compulsary as polio vaccine.engaging them in their field of interest is also a solution. there may be many solutions but by banning the production of drugs itself is a better way.

I have two ideas: 1. PM Modiji may, in his Mann Ki Bath stress the need for fine tuned family life akin to what we had in our ancient days, so that our kids could get involved with good life rather than taking into bad habits. 2.Since the money is the key factor in drug trafficking, however-much the PM advises, it does hardly work. So, tighten vigil against drug trafficking by posting honest officials fir the job.

As a principle, the govt cannot enforce people from consuming drugs/alchol. It is done by individual choice. So what can you do? Influence substance abusers. Make recovery programs for free in hospitals and clinics. Educate drug users and their families with video documentary education. Eg who profits from drug trade. How drug money goes to terror organisations. Finally set up counselling centres. Involve family in helping addicts wean off drugs. On going AA styled 12 step support programs.

I believe the primary reason is that young people nowadays do not have enough outlets to get rid of excess energy. We need to promote sports, and other physical activities which will help focus their energies into productive activities.
