Tiruchirappalli City Municipal Corporation has been ranked first among 12 cities selected for implementing Smart City project in Tamil Nadu and is gaining momentum to get shortlisted in the final round of Smart City Challenge where 20 cities would be selected in the first year.

The vibrant citizens of Tiruchirappalli are requested to post their views pertaining to municipal and city’s basic infrastructure such as water supply, electricity, sanitation, waste management, transport, parking, energy,housing, IT solutions,safety and security. Residents are encouraged to give their ideas and suggestions at city level as well as local area level solutionsin Tiruchirappalli.

USE OF GREEN VEHICLES BY DEPARTMENTS The Corporation should use environment-friendly garbage collection vehicles and trucks that adhere to the most stringent standards. Different departments make use of electric motorbikes, and electric bicycles.

PRODUCING SOLAR ENERGY ON THE ROOFS OF THE CITY'S EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS / GOVT BUILDINGS- Systems that produce green electricity and are used as solar power stations are to be deployed at all educational institutions and government buildings in the city.

CONSERVING WATER Need considerable efforts to conserve the water used to irrigate public gardens. gardens, green strips and traffic islands to be connected to an irrigation system that is remotely controlled in real time and oversees all the sprinklers in every garden. This method of irrigation makes it possible to automatically open and shut all the sprinklers, monitor the amount of water allocated to each section of the garden, and receive detailed reports that track water consumption.

Corporation should assimilate development plans and architectural designs whose purpose is to detail the design concept underlying the construction and development of a given project. The landscaping concept and the relation between the building and its immediate surroundings are also to be resented. ensures a satisfactory link between the project and the adjacent roads and crossings (for vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists) - and facilitate improvements to that link and to the project's function

GREEN CONSTRUCTION to adopt green construction principles in its planning and building procedures, thereby offering an opportunity to make a significant change in the quality of construction and quality of life. This includes, inter alia, instituting green construction guidelines related to building permits, promoting the green design of new educational institutions in the city, encouraging greater energy efficiency in buildings, integrating green construction principles in existing neighborhood

smart city is meant not only for giving ultra modern facilities but also in a sustainable and natural friendly way. For instance, the electricity consumption of public BUILDINGS / DEPARTMENTS lights and street lights could be revamped with SOLAR POWER. tapping out the school going children power : The seed of thought for cleanliness should be sown in the minds of the school going children. For this GREEN CLUB should be initiated in every school.

PRESERVING OPEN SPACES A preserved open space is a space that is not sprayed with chemical herbicides. There should be a number of preserved open spaces, where one can find a rich variety of natural seasonal vegetation that add scenery and natural beauty to the city's landscape. The corporation should encourage and support recreational, informational, and educational activities through the "Resident Trustees of Nature" framework.

MUNICIPAL RECYCLING A great deal of recycling to be done including: paper, plastic containers, small beverage bottles, batteries, scrap metal in compliance with the vehicle dismantling program, electronic waste, white paper (offices), cartons, textile/clothing – alongside educational activities at the kindergartens and schools.

COMMUNITY GARDENS helps groups of residents to establish community gardens for the purpose of 'adopting' and cultivating a selected open space in the city. These gardens are founded on ecological principles and on planting endemic vegetation that conserves water and is more pest resistant.
