Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, in Karnataka State has been selected by the Ministry of Urban Development as one of the 100 smart cities to participate in the “Smart City” Challenge Stage-2 by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.

Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation was constituted in the year 1962 by combining two cities separated by a distance of 20 kilometers. This was a unique experiment in urban development history. The area of this Corporation is 202.3sq.kms, spread over 45 revenue villages. The population of the city as per the 1991 Census was 7 lakhs. The present population is nearly more than 9.43 lakhs. Under the Government of India Act of 1850, the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal council was established on August 15, 1855.

Let’s join together to make Hubballi-Dharwad as a Smart City.

Ravi Doddamani Chief Engineer(Retd) Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd 1.The villages in between Dharwad and Hubli should be included in the smart city programme 2.The green belt area consisting of mango,peru,chikku gardens around Navalur,Sattur,Tadasinakoppa shall not be disturbed 3.The city centres shall be decongested,by developing shopping facilities at respective extensins like Navanagar,Vanasirinagar,Gandhinagar etc 4.It is painfull towrite that the age old urinals provided at Dharwad

Kindly replace old sodium street/yellow lights with LED lights that are driven by solar power. This will not only make the streets brighter, bringing down the crime rate, but also saves power.
