There is lot of space on the top of railway passenger carriages where photo electric cell can be installed to harness solar energy required for lighting and cooling of compartments. Modalities of air pressure, collected dirt etc. on cells can be sorted out with the help of experts.

All such installations where mass cooking is involved should be encouraged to use solar energy. Sai Sansthan at Shirdi has set a brilliant example of use of solar energy for mass cooking. They are saving gas cylinders and are using solar heated hot steam for cooking.

I do not understand why we are not able to utilizing solar energy to convert sea water into potable water in our country. Countries like Saudi Arabia are converting saline water in to portable water and meeting demand of their cities and also feeding visitors during haj period.

We have bio gas plant in our society of 289 flats in Pune But we do not know how to use this to generate electricity which can be used for lighting etc If renewable energy starts from grassroots, it will make a big difference.

As a part of commitment given by GOI at international conference in 2010 and being realised the scarcity, policy makers seem to be serious of giving impetus to non conventional energy sources. But the main hurdle is State Electricity Distribution Companies and State Energy Development Agencies (particularly that of MSDEL and MEDA in Maharashtra). All interested end user and entrepreneurs should be made free from shackles of niggardliness, lethargic and corrupt attitudes of these departments.

1. Make it mandatory for every new constructed private bungalow to have solar energy generation for captive use. Make it a part of granting approval for building plan. 2. Make it mandatory for all Pvt ltd companies to install and use solar energy for all their peripheral activities such as guest houses, schools that they run & any part of their CSR. Make it mandatory for these compamies to change to solar energy generation. 3. Give tax concessions for indivuals & entities that comply.

The chemistry text books for school, colleges and higher academic instittions have been written based on petroleum origin chemicals. However, as we do not have infinite reserve of petroleum resources, generations after generations, we have been ignoring the sustainability issue and making ourselves more and more dependent on others. Hence, awareness should start from the grassroot level. Initiative from authorities in this direction will help to build up a healthy and sustainable society.
