Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has emerged as a wonderful forum to strengthen the bond between the diaspora and the people of India. It offers unlimited opportunities for India to gain from the skill and insight of the diaspora, who have been the pride of India across the world.

This forum seeks inputs on how to further sharpen the focus of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas for the overall development of India. Share your views on what more can be done to make the interaction between the NRIs and the Government more productive and impactful. How can India receive more investment not only from the diaspora but also from the world at large?

If you find global best practices of how various Governments have been innovatively engaging with their diaspora through such summits, you can share the same here too.

Major Insurance Companies and First Class Banks in India need to be able to underwrite socio-economic projects to be set- up in India for funding and implementations. This will enable economic developments, exports and job creations. Government of India policies must allow this underwriting process in order to attract large FDI in various sectors including manufacturing and national retail in India. All red tapes must be removed.

Inda Govt & its states must assure security of NRIs investments and their properties. Several NRIs have very bad experience by investing their hard earned money in India. Their invested properties have been grabbed by powerful IAS/IPS/politicians. They do not have time to keep going to rusty courts. In fact these goons also manipulate courts/police/other offices. They say" Everybody knows them and nobody knows NRIs" so everybody used to help the goons and NRIs are placed in a horrible position.

India needs to truly harness is the “INTELLECTUAL Investment” of the Intellectual Group NRI’s (academicians, engineers, doctors, scientists etc) who can certainly help educate and pass on the knowledge they gained abroad to our youngsters. They should be requested to adopt a college/ university/ group/ locality etc., where they will interact with the youngsters.

If India wants the Indians abroad to be made to feel a part of India, then the first thing should be to stop calling the day as “PRAVASI BHARATIYA DIVAS”. “Pravasi Bhartiya” makes the NRI only feel like a nomad travelling around who does not have a base/home to return to. Instead, it can be called “Swagat Bharityo Divas” and make the NRI feel welcomed home.
