Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance or UMANG developed by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology was inspired from the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister, who said “e-Governance, let us think about ‘mobile first’ and thus give importance to m-Governance”.

On November 23, 2017, the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi dedicated the UMANG Mobile app to the Nation with 163 services. UMANG is an initiative to build a common, unified platform, aggregating major government services of Center, States, local bodies, including important utility services, to facilitate a single point access through mobile app, anytime, anywhere. Citizens need to download just one mobile application and can access multiple services.

UMANG was envisaged to have a transformative and historic impact on the lives of citizens by allowing them to avail digital services on 24*7, without any intermediary. Connected government, effective & economic governance, citizen centricity, inclusiveness, universal access and citizen participation in governance are some of the key benefits of UMANG for citizens as well as the Government.

Within a short period of its successful running, the mobile app bagged the ‘Best m-Government Service’ award at the 6th World Government Summit held at Dubai, UAE, in February 2018. UMANG also won at the IDC Digital Transformation Awards 2018 in August, under the category Omni-experience Innovator, which recognized it as a pioneering initiative.

The ‘Digital India Jury choice award 2018-19’ and DARPG Gold award 2018-19 for ‘Excellence in providing Citizen Centric Delivery’ respectively, were also bestowed upon UMANG. Information dissemination and delivery of government services, for assisting citizens on various aspects of life & livelihood, is being taken to another level through the consolidation of many important and widely used government services onto a single unified mobile app i.e. UMANG

UMANG Team now invites your suggestions for which 3 new services to on-board from State/Central Government departments on to the UMANG Platform.

Please submit your suggestions (comments) latest by 18th January, 2022.

Comments may also be sent by email at: umang.gov@gmail.com

I would like to share an idea of registration of vehicle in our country. As of today everything is online but RTO is the place where individuals have to visit and pay bribes for everything. If our honorable minister make it as one nation one registration it will be useful to common people and it also reduce fatigue of unnecessary process and customers are not indulge in bribe giving.

As name Umang suggests Entusiasm,it should generate Umang in app users by providing corruption free platforms to general public in offices of Circle Offices and Sub registrars offices where mutation of land records and registration of sale deeds are executed manually.Middleman activities are rampant leading to delay in service as well as paving way for dirty transactions. All activities at such places should be digital without manual interventions and time bound.Strict actions should be taken against people playing with people’s right for clean and transparent services.

UMANG is a great initiative, and an expansive one with more services getting added gradually. Need to make it extensive too. Eg. while it’s a great help for employees to check their passbook on the App, it can help minimise hassles, unsurmountable at times, faced following up with EPFO. Eg. the dept still insists to see physical original documents like EPS certificates. The last served RO shall be responsible to upload digital copies that MUST be accessible to and acceptable by any other EPF RO.
