The District Administration Baghpat invites citizens, youth, innovators and institutions from across India on MyGov to share innovative and practical ideas to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a Zero Waste Mahotsav on theme “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi”.

Building on the successful implementation of a Zero Waste model during Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations, this initiative aims to further strengthen sustainable practices and develop Baghpat as a model for green and responsible religious gatherings in India.

Aligned with the vision of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), Swachh Bharat and sustainable tourism, the initiative promotes environmentally responsible behaviour, reduction of waste, resource efficiency and community participation in large public events.

What kind of ideas are we looking for?
1. Participants are encouraged to submit practical, scalable and innovative ideas in areas such as:
a. Waste management and zero waste systems
b. Plastic-free alternatives for melas and religious events
c. Eco-friendly materials and green infrastructure
d. Awareness campaigns and behavioural change strategies
e. Volunteer and youth engagement models
f. Use of technology (apps, QR-based services, monitoring systems, etc.)
g. Sustainable tourism and visitor management

How to participate?
1. Submit your idea in maximum 200–300 words
2. Focus on solutions that can be practically implemented on ground
3. You may include examples, models or case references

What will happen to your ideas?
Selected ideas will be reviewed by the District Administration and considered for implementation during the Shravani Mahashivratri Mela scheduled in second week of August 2026. Selected contributions may also be recognised as part of a district-led innovation initiative and documented as good practices.

This is an opportunity to contribute to building a national model of sustainable religious events, promote environmental responsibility, and strengthen citizen participation in governance. Your ideas can help demonstrate how tradition, technology and sustainability can work together for a better future.

The Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela is not only a religious gathering but also a symbol of devotion, culture, faith and community participation. Every year, thousands of devotees visit the mela to seek blessings, participate in rituals and celebrate the spiritual significance of Mahashivratri. However, large gatherings often create major environmental challenges such as plastic waste, food waste, water pollution, overcrowding and excessive use of resources. The successful implementation of the Zero Waste model during the Falguni Mahashivratri 2026 celebrations has already demonstrated that religious events can become environmentally responsible while maintaining their spiritual essence. Building upon this achievement, the vision of “Bhakti Bhi, Prakriti Bhi” aims to transform the Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Mahashivratri Mela into a national model for sustainable religious tourism and green event management. propose a “Zero Waste Mahotsav” model for Shri Parshurameshwar Pura Mahadev Temple, Baghpat. Separate bins for wet, dry, and puja waste should be installed across the mela area. Plastic use should be reduced through reusable steel utensils and water refill stations. A “Green Seva Dal” of students and volunteers can spread awareness about cleanliness and eco-friendly practices. QR codes may provide waste management and emergency information. This initiative will promote sustainable religious tourism and public participation.

"महाशिवरात्रि पर ‘पुण्य बैंक’ बनाया जाए। जो भी भक्त प्लास्टिक बोतल, कागज या कचरा सही डस्टबिन में डाले, उसे एक ‘पुण्य पॉइंट’ दिया जाए। ज्यादा पुण्य पॉइंट पाने वालों को मंदिर की ओर से पौधा, प्रसाद या सम्मान पत्र दिया जाए। साथ ही चढ़ाए गए फूलों से अगरबत्ती और खाद बनाई जाए, ताकि पूरा आयोजन स्वच्छ और जीरो वेस्ट बन सके।"
