Please consider Maternity leave for atleast 6 months in private sector also and implement it immediately , as many women are forced to leave their jobs.

Ministry should seriously pay attention to the problem of single mothers (divorced/widowed) rearing up more than one girl child. Mothers may be given some relief by exempting their income tax or by weiving daughters'school fee/ higher education fee. Such daughters should be given preference in govt job if they are otherwise qualified. Such steps may encourage more mothers like us to take responsibility of their daughters .. Kinda 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao'.

useless unless you also train the Judges to be more gender sensitive and monitor thier conduct in courts and also do random reviews of Judgments. Many judges of family courts in order to show that they are not pro-women and are neutral - end up being anti women. I have many examples.

Just increasing the number of women in Judiciary and openeing more family courts will not help. Many of the family court judges have the same patriachal attitude and pass backwork comments and Judgements . More important is gender senstization of the Judges and surprise checks/visits/review of Judgements passed.

While the maternity leave is being enhanced from 3 months to 7 months, there is a need for job protection leave for women till the infant turns 3 years of age (till the child can at-least begin to speak). This may be unpaid leave post maternity leave and there may be an incentive for employer ( a certain amount of taxation relief to give job protection and to re-skill the employee after 3 years of break from work).Women in unorganized sector also be given Maternity and Child Care Leave.

I see no initiative in increasing the maternity leave to 26 weeks. The proposal has been in media since July but it is yet to be implemented! The concerned ministry has been sitting on this, without any action for more than 10 months now!
On one hand, the govt. is continuously advertising that a newborn should only be given mother's milk for first six months & on the other hand, govt. provides only 12 weeks leave in the maternity benefit act. Very contradicting!

Given the governments focus on skill development. I believe it is also very important to build a critical life skill of managing money. From our experience on creating awareness on personal finance to 4000+ women. We have seen that, Women seldom manage their money & are typically done by male member of the family. Need for education on this skill is very important to make women financially independent & manage the contingencies better.
