The Indian Nanoelectronics Users Program (INUP), hosted at IIT Bombay and IISc Bangalore, with financial support from the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY), strives to address many of these challenges. Through INUP, Ph.D. students and faculty innovators from any university or institution in India recognized by MHRD can access these nanofabrication facilities which house more than 150 sophisticated instruments for fabrication and characterization of nanoelectronic devices. The students also receive mentorship from experts – both faculty and other senior students – about their research projects and prototype development. INUP also conducts workshops to provide information and “hands-on” sessions to explain use of equipment.

If you are a Ph.D. student anywhere in India who wishes to try out an innovative idea in the area of nanoelectronics, you can send a proposal to INUP (http://www.inup.iitb.ac.in and http://www.nano.iisc.ernet.in/inup/). INUP provides the funding, help, mentorship and facilities, but the IP of your idea belongs to you.

There should be a ban on post-retirement jobs for judges after two years of their retirement. Suggested ban should be applicable for post of NHRC Chief also, by amending NHRC Act to allow any retired Judge of Supreme Court to chair NHRC. It will also give a variety of select-options for the important post.

Instead of closing down HMT-watches, steps should be taken to modernise production of these old-times’ Indian prides to make their production profitable. Production of Ambassador-cars can be started in public-sector to retain these as heritage where still white Ambassadors mostly used in government-offices are taken as a symbol of pride. Items of yesteryears like old models of gramophones, telephones, watches can be started manufactured with modern technology to export these at demanded prices.

Retaining Gandhi Jayanti in list of compulsory holidays, is against ideals of Father of the Nation who always asked countrymen for hard work. Instead 2nd October should be converted into extra work-day by extending working in offices by say half an hour on this day. Likewise ‘close-days’ on 14th April for Dr BR Ambedkar’s birthday can also be turned into Extra-Work-Day. Concept of ‘extra-work-day’ then can be extended to ideally celebrate birthdays of other great persons also.

Merger of smaller public-sector banks into some larger public-sector banks can largely reduce overheads. It will also enable merger of bank-branches with negligible business into nearby branches thus resulting in further saving of public-funds in banking-operations. Initially all subsidiary banks of State Bank of India can be merged into the main State Bank of India itself. Itl automatically solve problem of shortage of staff with surplus staff being deputed in branches left after merger.

Different public-sector banks have different rates of interest for various types of loans and deposits. There is no uniformity in various types of bank-charges. Such practice causes great difficulty for senior citizens whose only income is from interest on fixed deposits. Depositors on maturity of fixed-deposits rush to some other bank offering higher rate of interest. Union government and RBI should ensure uniform rates of service-charges and interest-rates at least for all public-sector banks.

Reliable and economical Speed Post service should be encouraged over private courriers by having ‘one nation, one tariff’ policy with its tariff being uniformly fixed at rupees say twenty-five per 50 gms for complete country instead of charging rupees 17 for local and rupees 39 for non-local Speed post. This service then can be still more popularised by initiating system of sponsored postal stamps whereby private bodies may be able to get postal-stamps of their designs (to be approved by postal-

Highly mismanaged and oldest Ramlila of Delhi presently staged at Ramlila Maidaan (New Delhi) should be taken over by Union or Delhi government on lines of Mysore Dussehra and to get UNESCO aid to save as heritage. Management has hurt religious feelings by ousting three traditional priests which according to a 1938-document were to be seated traditionally generation-after-generation on daily procession for eleven Ramlila-days. Costly silver items and one of the two main chariots are missing.

I belong to a village of population below 1000.there is no effect of swachh bharat because most of the people are illiterate and unaware. I think there must be 100% participation of local gram punchayat. Then people may participate. It must be compulsory for gram punchayat to clean their village once in a month. Young people and children from secondary schools should invite for this purpose.
