Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

Usage of paper can be given an innovative creation.Demerits of using polybags must be circulated by advertisements. The old tradition of using bags of cloth should be revitalised. The positive points; like of its re-use, should be spread. It should become a trend to say no to polybags. For few weeks cloth bags shoul be given free with the bought accessories. This would reduce collection of polybags by citizens.

Sir in my opinion it is not practical to impose ban for use of plastic bags on millions and billions shopkeepers and the buyers. Instead a ban should be on some thousands of the plastic bags manufacturers those are producing without any licences and as per the guideline. Otherwise somehow it becomes a tool to collect money. Thanking you. Regards

The use of Plastic Bags is so common, that sudden ban will cause lot of inconvenience to both the Shopkeepers and buyers. Instead, I think we need make Cotton Bags(thaili) popular. Carrying Cotton Bags should be made a Popular Trend. If we make these Cotton Bags(thaili) a fashion quotient, a style statement, promoted by celebs & sports personalities, extensively discussed in media, online campaigns like "My Thaili", will surely impact youth and they can make it a nation wide Phenomena.

it is serious subject of polythene banning because we all use it every day and it is not easy to bann ,and after that we also have to support cloth bags, jute bags .we should avoid plastic as soon as possible because after Some generation polythene will be becoming Our centre of attraction because it is cheap and readily available. we have to try hard

Only ban on plastic bags will not be fruitful. Government needs to support jute industry and promote jute bags as an alternative. These bags can be use as an alternative in different shopping malls and grossly stores. This will help jute industry as well as to protect environment.Initially government can give subside on jute products.
