Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

we should also keep in mind about the peoples who are employed in plastic industries therefore banning is not the solution. we should try to convince them to make jute, paper or cloth bags instead of plastic bag therefore this can help in imposing plastic ban. I think if everyone of us individually reduce use of polythene bags by not asking shopkeeper an extra bag or by keeping several goods inside a single bag may help in reduction. At last plastics can be used for constructing roads....

It is a humble urge to all Govt sectors to install Hygienic & chilled "R.O. Water Booth" at all Public places like Bus Stand, Railway stations / and even in side the Trains by charge nominal cost for safe water. It will help to minimize Plastic bottles. In a train journey every one use many water bottles and throwing here and there after use. Paying too much cost and even not sure about the quality of water which we are purchasing in side and at stations (several local brands).

My request to the government of India is that, please do proper research on plastic use and usage. If plastic is not good for at all, why this should not ban at raw material level and at production level. Who is stopping ?. Any agency or government is putting fine on end users like common people it is utterly no sense or illogical solution. It is really inconvenient to the people. People were not produced plastic, factories are producing. Govt is final, please stop production level only.

Any kind of Ban is not a solution. It should be through self motivation. 1. Spread awareness through TV campaigns like it was done for Education : School chale hum. 2. Involve peoples favourite movie and sport stars in spreading awareness. 3. Distribute free paper and cloth bags. 4. Grocery stores and departmental stores should give reusable bags and give a little discount if someone reuses the bag for the next shopping.

Plastic bags production to be completely banned. For other electronics and bottle wastes, the govt should implement buy back system for these items for safe disposal. Public don't aware the seriousness of the e waste. The manufacturers must take back the old products. This will ensure real swatch bharath.

If you don't want the branches to grown more the roots of the should be cut off. Similarly ìf we want no polythene then the mega factories manufacturing them should be ordered to shut down .or they should be taxed heavily so that Polythene became so costly that demand for the same would reduce.
