Taking serious note of the latest decision of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the Chandigarh Administration has speed up the enforcement of ban imposed on the use of polythene carry bags/plastic bags/plates/cups and other allied material in Union Territory of Chandigarh. As per NGT directions there is also provision of imposing fine of Rs.5, 000/- "Environmental Compensation" to the erring person/entity per event, along with seizure of such stocks.

With the help of this discussion platform the Administration requests you to 'report the violations' (attach pictures or other details) regarding use of plastic carry bag/plate/cup and allied items on ww.mygov.in. Also, we would like to read your suggestions/ideas as well as practical/workable solutions for complete imposition of plastic (carry bag/cup/plate and allied items) ban in Chandigarh.

1). Its to much difficult to Fight against 120cr indian but its easy to stop some thausands of plastic manufacturing industrialist. Or divert them to manufacture eco-friendly product. 2). Second better option is pramote that kind of manufacturing units which produce paper bags to reduce price then the plastic begs.

Local bodies should encourage industries that manufacture recycled paper bags and jute bags. Promoting jute bags will also provide livelihood to several related and depended jute industries in India. Also levying additional taxes on plastic carry-bag manufacturing industries would discourage people from opting for plastic bags.

Law should be framed to ban manufacturing of non-degradable plastic materials and should increase the quantity of degradable plastic material. If not manufactured, public will not get chance to use plastic and they will switch on to the alternate.

First step would be using recyclable, biodegradable and compostable plastic garbage bags for disposal. This kind of garbage bags are available/made in India. They have unique enzymes (made from natural resources and medicinal plants) that breaks down plastic quickly and safely into carbon dioxide, biomass and water; that too without leaving any toxic or hazardous residues. Indian Government can help the citizens by promoting or passing a law to use only biodegradable plastic bags.

To remove plastic problem first thing is to have an alternate like paper bag or jute bag,etc readily available in all nook and corners and make people aware of these things. Anyone can purchase plastic bag because it is available in every shop. People can also make use of start up india campaign and set up factory to produce paper bag..
