There is a need to improve access to child health services. The Ministry of Health is focusing on promoting child health through appropriate interventions. Presently, the Department of School Education and Literacy, MHRD addresses the nutritional needs of school going children in the age group of 6-14 years through the Mid- Day Meal (MDM) Scheme. The Integrated Child Development Scheme (ICDS) under WCD also addresses the issues of child health. There is, however, a need to synergize the multi-sectoral interventions taken by the relevant GOI Ministries. The existing schemes need to be examined for their outcomes and impediments in implementation, including those of coordination. This theme seeks views and suggestions on how to ensure greater focus on child through improvements in existing schemes and suggest new holistic interventions.

Ayurved and Yog subject should be made complusory for childern from 6th class onward because Ayurved is the way of life and unless children are not having knowledge of maintaining health they cannot study in a better way and cannot serve for Nation and for this purpose Ayurvedic Doctors should be appointed in Schools who will teach on this and also look after the health problems of children and this will ultimately save the Govt expenditure because a healthy person not requires much on medicine.

It is necessary to look at child health holistically and not just from the lens of good and adequate nutrition. It is very important to ensure that every MDM is hot cooked and made with utmost care. There needs to be increased coordination between different departments. Transport safety, schools and environment should be made safe. The education department should also set the maximum weight a child can carry.
