With a dramatic growth in elementary education enrolments and improvements in retention and transition rates in recent years, particularly amongst the more disadvantaged groups, there is an increasing pressure on the secondary schools to admit more students. With the enforcement of RTE Act and further improvement in retention and transition rates, demand for secondary schooling will grow rapidly in the coming years. The objective of this discussion group is to assess to what extent we have made quality education available, accessible and affordable to the target population in the age group of 14–18 years. How we can increase access to post elementary education across the country in a manner so as to ensure no child is denied the opportunity of completing his/her school education. In particular, how can we address the geographical and social disparities in secondary education?

I am a teacher in gov.elementry school.I see in last 15 years a lot of giv.school opened in rural areas by SSA.But It is too hard to appoint a lot of teacher in schools due to unsufficiant budget. Thus there is no quality efucation.in those nearest schools for villagerd. So the capable & awared parents send their children to private school by school bus. Thus gov.school suffers by lack of teacher & awared people both. Thus schools enrolment go down and gov.appoint teacher as student teacher ratio...

Let elder students mandatorily go and teach younger students. This will reinforce learning and community service in the country.

The salaries of school teachers in pvt. schools should also be checked and if less salary is being paid to them then the license of that private school should be revoked. Minimum wages/Minimum salary to all School teachers should be ensured without fail. Also the number of govt. schools and Kendriya Vidyalas(KV) should be doubled and the infrastructure/condition of KV's should be improved by doubling the eductaion budget so that there is healthy competion b/w private and govt. schools.

The number of private schools has increased tremendously in last decade. Howeevr the quality of education in the competing govt. schools has gone down equally. This has lead to private schools asking for huge fees for admission. This is unfair practice and in order to curb it the Govt. needs to have a strong school authority to conduct audits on these private schools and keep a check on their fees.

Course materials of Physics,Chemistry & Maths in class XI &XII:- So many chapters of these classes are not at all useful in studies of either Engineering or Medical students.Such chapters should be removed from the curriculum of these classes after consultation with Engg &Med colleges. Thus students will concentrate on other useful course materials effectively. This observation of mine is based on my own vast experience of teaching in Engg college, practical working exp in various Industries

India's curricula has always paid more emphasis on marks.... To reduce this the concept of CCE was reduced but didn't met our expectations.. We wan't our education policy not to just be restricted to marks... but emphasize on knowledge imparted... Marks or grade either to be made as part.. But knowledge by person is to be considered... PSA and CCE has done this .. pl do these criteria ... knowledge is superior.. give those people chance who can't score but have knowledge and are innovative

Can we have a national level body, which publishes the employment streams which will be available in next 5 years and plan initiatives through govt agencies to reskill citizens like next 5 years digitization is the future, who is training the workforce or the students. Can the government publish on skills which will be redundant like today no one employs a " secretary with typing and shortand skills"

Till 12th we force the child to learn subject like science and maths which may form a base but not the essential skill in courses like networking, hacking, digital media, financial planning etc which are future generation jobs. The child is confused all along as parents insist on choosing courses which would get them employment and not knowledge. There are not enough serious and detail oriented career cousellors. Today career couselling has becoming equivalent to selling an institutions course.
