Recent initiative to fit LED streetlights on Mumbai road proposed by GOI is a step in right direction. However it is necessary to bring the cost down and also ensure that the LED lamps are reasonably protected against voltage surges to avoid failure of bulbs and the project. A mission project should be started by the government of India to make cost effective and reliable LED bulbs and the technolgy should be given to only Indian companies under licence with small royalty to compete with China.

Y cant v have leak proof & properly sealed leads for the water tankers that are used all over the country to supply water. Why can't the same precaution be taken as it is taken for petrol or gas tankers. Will the leakage be tolerable in case of petrol or gas carrying tankers? Obviously no then why not the same attitude for water....

Want to light homes at night without electricity? no not Solar but gravity http://gravitylight.org I feel this is something which will help lots of rural areas in india where there is no electricity or less electricity. Don't know the status of the project but this is definitely a cool thing to consider.
