Manual scavengers are largely illiterate and have no exposure or aptitude for doing business or taking up self employment ventures.  This makes their rehabilitation in alternative occupations very challenging.

\

What are the ways in which the manual scavengers can be gainfully employed in other occupations, so that they do not return to manual scavenging? Participants may share success stories that they may be aware of.

In line with our Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi's Clean My India campaign, do watch this video that highlights the need to clean our nation and to clean with the right equipment. Kam-Avida supports the Swachh Bharat Mission! #MyCleanIndia

The persons engaged in this profession sud feel proud by name as well as by the style they work. Hope we do sincerely in this direction. Thanks.

First a written warning should be reach on each house to convert their toilet with monitory punishment if they don’t and financial assistant if they willing to convert. Second, Govt. has to take undertaking, with such household who want to convert their toilet that temporary toilets will be provided 24x7 hours round the clock with water till modified toilet is ready in such committed household. Rehabilitation will be successful only when their will be no demand for manual scavenger.

3) Some rebate and other schemes should be implemented (i think there are already a few) for making toilets in homes. Also prizes for people who come out with more sustainable toilet constructions like using plastic bottles, glass bottles, aluminum cans to make walls. Using bathroom water for gardens and unedible plants etc. I may have mis understood the topic but anywayz.....

A few Points --- 1) Include religious deities in your poster campaigns to stop such habits. (Kindly use less posters and more of communication media as its more eco friendly) 2) Please try to promote Earthship form of Architecture in villages. We recently made one. Watch documentary Garbage Warrior on YouTube for more info.

They must be provided with skills to get engaged in some manufacturing activity. they must be provided with decent housing and their children should get free schooling till graduation. Most important is caste system and it should be removed otherwise nothing will change in our society. They continue to be oppressed and discriminated as result some anti social elements using this and forcing them to convert to other religion. so leading to religious clashes. So it must be abolished.
