Manual scavengers are largely illiterate and have no exposure or aptitude for doing business or taking up self employment ventures.  This makes their rehabilitation in alternative occupations very challenging.

\

What are the ways in which the manual scavengers can be gainfully employed in other occupations, so that they do not return to manual scavenging? Participants may share success stories that they may be aware of.

(1) Need to change the law, wherever it is NOT permitting / allowing to built toilet in home. In Mumbai, 'Pagdi system,' (which protects tenants from eviction & tenants are living there from decades/generations. Needs Landlords / court permission to built toilet in home, & in majority cases tenant will not get that permit ! This 1 simple change of rule will built multi lacs of toilet in Mumbai/India .(with tenant's/ own expense ) & reduce burden on waste management /cleaning staff - engineer..

At first there has to be clarity on job responsibility. If the municipality is responsible for waste collection then the manual scavengers do not come in picture.Once this is clear then the Q of their rehabilitation comes in. Currently many a scavengers are project affected people who r displaced from their villages n so they end up in cities n having no job they get into scavenging.Rehabilitate them back to the villages n let them be good farmers. This is the only sustainable solution.i can help

The Misssion to removd archaic laws is laudable. But the most important thing is to annul laws that fan litigation and inequality. For instance Gambling and Immoral traffic act help the police to harass or mint money. Similarly dowry, cruelty and atrocity laws are unequal and they discriminate. Their misuse is the order almost. They help to intimidate, harass or cause untold misery. My heart bleeds profusely, when I come across the poor victims. A law is for relief and for not cause suffering.

1. Sir, I would like to request once again for quick decision for goa mining to start by End of October or in first week of November. All Goans are affected due to ban for Iron Ore Exports. Once Iron Ore leases are renewed and with proper legal way export of Iron Ore starts, Goa will be generate income for Indian Govt also, where we were exporting 45 million tons, last two years we are not in position to export 10 Million tons also. all people are suffering badly. My humble request to see pls.

Using road for any function by putting tents, pandals, celebrating any event like Ganapati, Navratri, shivaratri, or any kind must be legally banned as that creats lot of inconvenience to common people living in that area.
