India is among 51 countries to sign the “Rome Declaration” on “Achieving Self-sufficiency in Safe Blood and blood products based voluntary non-remunerated donation”. Blood is an intrinsic requirement for health care and proper functioning of the health system. National AIDS Control Organization under Department of Health and Family Welfare has been primarily responsible for ensuring provision of safe blood for the country since 1992. National Blood Policy 2003 reiterates firmly the government’s commitment to provide safe and adequate quantity of blood, blood components and blood products.

However, in India, a needy patient or his relatives have to run from pillar to post in search of blood and the onus of procurement of blood still lies with the patient and not with the service provider.

Suggestions are invited on how to develop a nationally coordinated and well networked blood transfusion service in the country and reach 100% voluntary blood donation to enable us to meet the global goal of self sufficiency in blood and blood products.

Safe blood also means ensuring plasma devoid of viral stains and allergens. The current mechanism of blood collection does not ensure that.Secondly, although I digest 100% voluntary donation, I think there should be remuneration for the donors, in form of some protein biscuits not as cash, that will help them to suffice the loss and encourage faster blood cell recovery in the body, obviously keeping in mind protein urea, and allergies. There should be a "I am a Blood Donor" Cap or T Shirt / Badge.

A patient will just walk through, get all testing, diagnosis, medication etc in the base level center. No need of buying medicines from store, this would bring medicines cost low. Bulk buying for all nation wide centers will also bring cost down. Procurement can be separate wing. Proc shd be done from only certified units. E-Proc can be adopted. All pvt doctors should be paid handsomely and shd be brought in to this system. More medical, para medical, nursing colleges should be opened.

The other financing sources can be: 1% of Income Tax, Financing from Funding Agencies, Philanthropists, HNI, etc. I am sure fiance would not be a constraint in this Nobel cause. No need of Medical Insurance. That money can also be channelized if the new system is able to take care of every ailment. Open up AIIMS type institute and cancer hospital in all state capital, at district level good hospitals with all facilities, then at Tehsil level etc.

We used to call medical profession as Novel Profession. But we all know that things are changing. Value system, honesty and concerns for others has decreased in the society as a whole. Receiving just and affordable treatment is every body's right. I suggest an independent org which will be managed and governed by top notch, clean and imminent citizens. Every citizen will compulsorily contribute minimum Rs.1 per day. This would only be whooping Rs. 125 Cr. X 365 Days = Rs. 45,625 Crores

Recently there is spurt in redevelopment where the properties are very highand beyond reach of even d rich people. Redevelopmemt is mental torture and killing more people than terrorist! Some one should deeply study it. For ex. 150 families resident of Dashashrimali nagar, Narsing lane, Malad west vacated their 1RK since 2 years and getting tortured and living in tensions when they will. Get agreement signed and get rent till time of possession of their legitimate 330 ft flat as per govt. Norms
