India is among 51 countries to sign the “Rome Declaration” on “Achieving Self-sufficiency in Safe Blood and blood products based voluntary non-remunerated donation”. Blood is an intrinsic requirement for health care and proper functioning of the health system. National AIDS Control Organization under Department of Health and Family Welfare has been primarily responsible for ensuring provision of safe blood for the country since 1992. National Blood Policy 2003 reiterates firmly the government’s commitment to provide safe and adequate quantity of blood, blood components and blood products.

However, in India, a needy patient or his relatives have to run from pillar to post in search of blood and the onus of procurement of blood still lies with the patient and not with the service provider.

Suggestions are invited on how to develop a nationally coordinated and well networked blood transfusion service in the country and reach 100% voluntary blood donation to enable us to meet the global goal of self sufficiency in blood and blood products.

My concern is about the security of the nation. I believe Pakistan is not the main enemy of India. They were used earlier by America and now by China. I do not think the counterfeit notes are not produced in Pakistan. It is from China. Recent maoist attacks and some movements in the north east states are also shows their intention to destruct the integrity of the nation. Recent surveys showed they are no 1 in black money. We are also facing the same problem.

I am a Retd. Education officer & a social worker. I have a dream. This dream is related to the well being of the really poor who feel themselves lucky the day they are able to have a hearty meal. I want that free food points - (langars) be set up at the places inhabited by the very poor people. This will, indeed, be a unique & a rare kind of program in the history of the world. How much pleasant would it appear if his excellency, the President of India shows interest in it?

Govt. accommodation: Government (Centre/State/Local bodies) and Govt. services (Water/Road/Electricity/etc.) personnel live in colonized government quarters and get 100% services and facilities for themselves which is invariably delayed to common citizen. All govt. accommodation should be scrapped and personnel should be accommodated along with citizen. This will make them understand actual ground situation and result in improved services to all. Thank you.

One more point for access: infrastructure development should be done in rural areas without disturbing the culture of the rural people. More hospitals need to be set up in the rural areas. Lucrative job opportunities are needed as it has been seen that people shy away from the villages. There are not enough blood donation centres in the rural areas.
