The main purpose of these two institutions established under the TRAI Act is to regulate telecommunication services, adjudicate disputes, dispose appeals and protect the interest of the service providers as well as the consumers. The Act also aims at promoting and ensuring orderly growth of the telecom sector.

To tackle this, TRAI has introduced a simple way to register a complaint for unsolicited messages. You can call 1909 and follow the instructions you hear. Select the option for registering a complaint.

As per TRAI, if it fixes a floor price for 4G voice calls then it must do so for 2G and 3G as well and not leave them under forbearance.

Through the paper, the regulator has sought stakeholder views on issues such as the methodology to fix a floor price and ensuring equity. TRAI has sought views on whether a floor price should be determined for each operator separately or should there be a uniform floor price for telecom services. It has further asked what the mark up over the cost should be to fix a floor price.

The rules came into effect from February 1, this year. Now, channels cannot be priced more than Rs 19, if part of a bouquet of channels.May 22, 2019
